Keeping your eye shadow in place is easier than you may think. As with any makeup look, it all begins with the right foundation. Prepping and setting your eye is just as important as prepping the rest of your face. Eye shadow needs something to hold onto, just as powder, bronzer, and blush do. So making sure you’re well hydrated, using a light eye cream, and beginning with a the proper products are all key to laying the foundation for a strong, long-lasting makeup look. Read ahead for specific tips to keep your eyes looking as fresh as when you first applied your shadow.
How to Make Eye Shadow Last
Use a Primer – Using a simple eye shadow primer will make sure your makeup has something to hold onto. A primer (or base) will also make your color pop, rather than fade into your skin. Lightly apply with your finger for a smooth, even lid.
Use a Cream Base – Using cream-based eye shadow can help act as a base for your other powder-based shadows. Use a neutral cream tone all over your lid for an even surface.
Layer it On – Once you have a base in place, layer on your colors for the right amount of depth and dimension. Don’t be afraid to build your shadow by patting it on with the brush rather than sweeping, which may actually take away some of the product.
Set Your Look – Finish off with a makeup setting spray that will hold your look together for the rest of the day. And then do your best not to touch your face or rub your eyes, making sure your makeup stays intact.
